Who is responsible
eMzansiEats provides the ordering software. The shop you order from decides what to do with your order, and eMzansiEats looks after the system it runs on. Both of us must protect your information under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
What we collect, and why
- Your name and phone number. So the shop can prepare your order, call you if something is wrong, and tell you when it is ready.
- Your order. The items, notes, pickup time, price, how you chose to pay, and its progress. So the shop can make it, and so you can follow it.
- Catering requests. Your name, phone number, event date, number of guests and what you need, so the shop can send you a quote.
- Staff accounts. The email address and password of shop owners and staff, so they can sign in. Passwords are kept by our sign-in provider as one-way hashes.
- A one-way code for abuse protection. To stop one device flooding the system, we keep a scrambled code made from your network address. We cannot turn it back into the address.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your information.
- We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, or analytics, on the customer pages.
- We never see or store your card or bank login details. Online payments happen on the payment provider's own page.
Who can see it
Staff of the shop you ordered from see your name, phone number and order. The kitchen screen shows the order but not your phone number. Our platform administrators can see shop and order records when they must look after the service. If you pay online, the payment provider receives what it needs to take that payment. Our hosting and database providers store the data for us. Some of them keep it outside South Africa.
How long we keep it
Order records are kept so that shops can handle refunds, disputes and tax records. Automatic deletion is not built yet. Until it is, we delete or anonymise records when you ask, unless the law or an open dispute means we must keep them.
Your rights
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted. Write to the contact address below, and say which shop and which phone number you used. If you are not happy with our answer you can complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.
Keeping it safe
Connections use HTTPS. Each shop can only see its own records, and the database enforces this. Staff roles limit what each person can do. No system is perfectly safe; if your information is ever exposed we will tell the affected shops and people as the law requires.
Contact
The platform owner has not set a contact address yet. Until they do, ask the shop you ordered from.
